ロビンソンらが叙勲

【海外ラグビー情報ノート】

ワールドカップ・フランス大会で準優勝を遂げたイングランド代表ですが、ブライアン・アシュトン監督と、そして大会を花道に現役を退いたジェイソン・ロビンソン氏に、それぞれ大英帝国勲章 Order of the British Empireが授与されることになりました。

ロビンソン氏にはOBE（オフィサー）そしてアシュトン監督にはMBE（メンバー）それぞれ与えられます。ロビンソンは2003年大会のあと、MBEを既にもらっています（写真）

野人残留

ワールドカップでも強烈な存在感を見せ付けたフランス代表セバスチャン・シャバルですが、このたび所属チームのセール・シャークスと契約を更新しました。
母国に帰ってプレーする選択肢もありましたけど、やはり比較的平穏なイングランドでの生活を望んだようですね。つい先日30歳の大台を迎えたことですし、このまま現役を英国で全うする可能性も出てきました。

BBCスポーツパーソナリティ・オブ・ザ・イヤー

英国のテレビ局が選ぶ、今年の最優秀スポーツ賞"BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award"が決まりました。

 

Calzaghe wins Sports Personality   

England's rugby union team took the Team of the Year Award after their remarkable achievement in defying the odds to reach the Rugby World Cup final.

Talking on behalf of the team, blind-side flanker Martin Corry said: "I think the term 'rollercoaster of emotions' is often overused but it seems perfectly apt to describe our journey through the World Cup.
"I think every one of the players, the management and the coaches all deserve a mark of respect for that."

最優秀選手は、プロボクシング世界スーパーミドル級王者のジョー・カルザゲ（ウェールズ）。Ｆ１界の超新星、ルイス・ハミルトンらを抑えての受賞となりました。
そしてチーム部門では、大方の予想を裏切ってＷ杯準優勝を果たした、イングランド代表チームが選ばれています。

イングランドからは選手部門でも、現役を引退するジェイソン・ロビンソン氏が5位。またジョニー・ウィルキンソンが7位に食い込んでいますね。
また海外スポーツ選手部門では、プロテニスのロジャー・フェデラーが選ばれました。
